Enzyme mediated reaction

Posted by Biology SMART

Enzyme mediated reaction - The metabolic reactions maintaining homeostasis are mediated by enzymes. Enzymes are organic substances that help regulate chemical reactions by lowering the amount of energy required for the reactions to occur. Gustav Kirchhoff (18241887) was one of the first individuals to describe enzymes when he prepared a wheat grain extract that could convert starch to sugar. What he called ferments we now call enzymes.

Enzyme Reaction

Enzymes are forms of protein that regulate chemical reactions. But what regulates the synthesis (the production) of enzymes? Not only is the DNA molecule involved in the transmission of genetic information, but this genetic information also regulates protein synthesis. Some of those proteins are enzymes.  Remember that to maintain homeostasis, cells have to be energy transducers. Enzymes mediate metabolic processes, and the genetic code regulates protein synthesis.
